Rick CalvertRick Calvert

Rick Calvert co-wrote, produced, directed and starred in his first short film, "A Day at the Airport" at the tender age of 11.  While the box office gross was nominal - about eight dollars and 73 cents - it was just enough to launch a career that has spanned over three decades. On the set of his dad's late-night TV show in Minneapolis in the early 1960's, Rick always felt right at home both in front of and behind the cameras and microphones. A 1980 graduate of Brown College in Minneapolis, Rick set out on a career in radio that spanned 20 years, including production director positions at some of San Diego's best radio stations; Rock 102.1 (now 105.3), KOGO AM 600 and Q-106 back in the early days of Jeff & Jer..

Rick wrote and produced a series of memorable TV spots in the mid 1990's for "Saturn Auto Insurance" in San Diego and acquired somewhat of a cult following.  The quirky tongue-in-cheek TV ads featured a man-on-the-street (Rick), talking to the interviewee, a "complete stranger at random", who was always the same guy.

He has also done voiceover work for PC and PlayStation games such as "Beavis and Butthead do U" with Mike Judge, "Duckman" with Tim Curry and Dweezil Zappa and "Frogger: The Great Quest", one of the best-selling PS2 games ever.

Rick began intense actor training with Robert Wald in 1993 and then with Billy Cowart in 1999.

After years of study, Rick now shares his unique and diverse background and experience as WCI Studio's newest instructor.
